Strategy - The Intangibles

19 August 2005

Let me preface this by saying that the TOFU webby has a lot of great resources on strategy. Instead of boring everyone with a regurgitation, I'm going to list very clearly and briefly what I believe we can improve upon as a team.

---A. Holding ports

1. Always walk UnDeployed (UD). You can do this quickly by hitting F7 F5 F7 in rapid succession.

2. If you are holding ports, say so in regi chat (I UD 37). BC (assuming we have BC) needs to save spot (SS) for UDer.

3. Only UD in non-victory maps.

4. UD is no longer needed when btl is well-reined.

5. Use ports. When you rein, F2 to see which ports you got, and figure out which ports are best for your role in btl.

6. MP pro regiments cut like mad, and it's very important to thwart them especially when our pop is low and we depend on pacifica wulu reins.

---B. Communication

1. The most important thing in btl isn't hunting, clearing POC, or POCcing--it's communicating what YOU'RE doing. SG is team play, and if no one speaks up on what they're doing, team play reduces down to individual play, a losing strategy.

2. Important jobs in a btl include the following: a. mining b. mob/camp enemy portal c. hunting for miners, artillery, and nukes d. POC clearing e. POCcing f. POC sitting

3. Specialize in a job! A clouter should NOT be AA nix EG. An eduer should NOT POC EG. Of course, use your judgement in btl to see if you need to do something against the grain. Good communication will tell us what we need. That said, everyone should have one set of AA and one set of POCcers.

4. Don't point fingers at anyone after a loss. If you see bad units EG, or bad play, tell council privately. Don't be a drama queen and make regi environment hostile. Always encourage each other to succeed, and the odds will indeed favor us.

5. Eventually, we will all be so pro that we dun even need to say a word during btl. But that won't happen until we get very used to each other's playing style and self-assigned roles in btl.

6. Until we evolve to that state, we need to be more vocal, especially about our EG roles.

---C. Following

1. I see a lot of talk about leading regi btls. This is fine, but it's important to realize that following is equally important. Once a leader has been designated, give him a chance, and be a soldier. Act on your orders without hesitation or confusion.

2. Never, ever, second guess the designated leader. This is disrespectful and confuses the entire regiment. If you have a problem with a leader's decision, PM him privately.

3. I hold this saying close to my heart: a great leader must first learn to be a great follower. Leaders must communicate well, show patience and humility--this is the fastest way to earning the respect of your peers.

4. If not regi battling, always check map for regimates and clump together. Map reading is fundamental!

---D. Conclusions

In closing, I'd like to say my first month in TOFU has been very enjoyable. Everyone is has been super friendly, and that is what makes a regiment powerful--the camaraderie.

From the past posts, I have seen that many deserters doubted that the TOFU legacy can be fully reborn and realized. From what I've seen with you guys, they're dead wrong^^
