*T*O*F*U* Forever =)

15 April 2004

A long long time ago, in a galaxy far away... 4 guys got together and discussed the possibility of sharing some online game experiences together. A pact was made and the decision was to join the fun in a beta project called Shattered Galaxy. This was in the year 2000.

When the 4 guys first joined the game, only one of them had prior experience playing SG, and so the other 3 were more or less taught how to 'play SG effectively'. Over time, the 4 were seperated into different factions and it would seem the pact had broken off...

One day, Nexon made an announcement that a new beta phase would be starting... Our 4 guys got back together again and decided to form a more serious pact by having same suffixes for our nicks. Hence, the birth of GrandTofu, EvilTofu, HairyTofu & JediTofu.

Within a few weeks of playing, the 4 decided to consider forming up a TOFU regiment. There was a lot of jokes going on about the 4 being a 'fly by night' operation, and that TOFU will never survive. Nevertheless, in the end a regiment named TOFU was formed and started to prosper... until around October 2000, when most of its members had to stop playing SG due to exams and other reasons. TOFU was in temporary chaos, with a lot of players who joined for a few days and then leave when there's no apparent leadership around. This was a cycle that carried on till the year 2001.

September 2001, Shattered Galaxy entered phase 5 of beta testing, just prior to Commerciallisation in October. Our 4 tofus were busy comtemplating whether to continue the game or to seek fun elsewhere. About 2 weeks before commerciallisation, unbeknownst to the other 3 tofus, GrandTofu (whom by now has established himself as KillerTofu)had pre-ordered 4 SG games from Nexon. However, due to a mass miscommunication with the game distributor, only 2 of the games arrived in Singapore. What was even more surprising, was that of the 2 games that arrived, only one of them had the game disk, the other was just an empty sleeve, which unfortunately was picked up by EvilTofu. That very night, KT made an overseas call to the distributor to sort matters out, and in just 1 week, a replacement disk was sent.

Commerciallisation finally took effect by mid October, however, the tofus were still not in the game. In reality, an agreement was made to rejoin the game in December 2001, right after ET finishes his 'O' level exams. And so it came to be, in December of the year 2001, EvilTofu registered his nick in SG, followed by KillerTofu. About 1 week later, HairyTofu also joined the game after he found out that both ET and KT had decided to return to the game. Soon after, JediTofu also joined the game after KT helped him register for an account via the internet. Within a few weeks of our returning, lots of players were surprised to see the TOFU nicks back in SG, and was once again wondering if we would last.

Well, suffice to say, by end of December 2001, we had officially formed TOFU regiment. The initial weeks that followed were spent on defining our purpose in SG, how we wanted to establish ourselves and what kind of cooperation and teamwork we were concerned with. In the very beginning, TOFU was a purely Singapore Regiment, and the max strength was restricted to about 20 members. The Aim of the regiment was mainly for a group of Singaporean friends to get together and fight battles as a coordinated group and have fun. It was during this time that members of the regiment started to work in conjunction with several Japanese players and within a few weeks, it was decided that TOFU will not be exclusively a Singaporean regiment, but an Asian based regiment.

Soon after, troubles began brewing. An Overlord decided to disband the Japanese regiment, and TOFU welcomed them into our home. The next Overlord reinstated the Japanese Regiment, and our Japanese players went back to their home. Another Overlord then decided to disband TOFU and the TOFU members joined the Japanese Regiment. During this time, TOFU had already established itself and was fairly popular with the other members of the faction, so popular that majority voted for the reinstatement of TOFU as a regiment, with the strongest support coming from our Japanese Counterpart. The Overlord relented and once again TOFU was re-established. Within a few weeks of this happening, a pact was made with the Japanese Regiment to consolidate and merge into one effective fighting machine known as *T*O*F*U*.

Within the months that followed, *T*O*F*U* was growing. New members were joining and within weeks, were pledging their loyalty to remain in the regiment for as long as possible. The 4 original tofus then decided to get more serious about the regiment and decided on guidelines and rules for the regiment, not to restrict the fun and family atmosphere therein, but to establish it. By this time (around mid-year 2002), the decision was also made to make *T*O*F*U* an International Regiment.

A question kept coming up for the regiment. People were asking exactly what does *T*O*F*U* stand for? Originally, the idea of the regiment name was simply TOFU = To F U. Lots of people were amused by the acronym and were simply giggled to tears with the idea. Around December 2002, sometime after our '1st' anniversary as a regiment, the acronym of *T*O*F*U* represented 'The Odds Favour Us'. And it has remain so until present day.

Present Time - Today, *T*O*F*U* can be considered as one of the main pillars of SG. Her members are made up of players from all over the world. The primary goals of *T*O*F*U* were modified to reflect the current status of the regiment. Mainly, have fun, be politically neutral, be helpful, etc... Afterall, we are all in this family together. =)

This would not have been possible without the sacrifice and commitment of all the members of the Regiment, past, present and future. Bless you all and may you all live long and prosper.
